The Orleans Yacht Club, Inc., sits on the shore of the
Orleans Town Cove, a beautiful location with perfect
conditions for sailing and sailing instruction. The Club
operates a Junior Sailing Program serving children ages 8 to
18 for eight weeks, plus one week before and after classes
to set up and break down equipment.
The Orleans Yacht Club seeks a Junior Sailing Program
Head Sailing Coach (JSPHSC) to instruct beginners
through advanced Optis, Precisions, Capris, and 420s.

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Junior Sailing Program Head Sailing Coach (JSPHSC) is responsible for the daily dock
activities, on-the-water sailing instruction and activities, and classroom instruction. The
JSPHSC guides and instructs the Senior Instructors, Junior Instructors, and Junior Assistants
(Staff), demonstrates a consistently positive attitude, and has a sense of humor in a sailing
day camp environment with inherent interruptions.
The JSPHSC shall maintain an environment for Staff and students that prioritizes safety,
learning, and fun while demonstrating the JSP’s mission and values of teamwork, good
sportsmanship, honesty, courtesy, and consideration.
EXPECTED HOURS OF WORK
This position requires full-time on-site participation during the program’s operation (as per the dates
above). Depending on circumstances and needs, the schedule includes some weekends, early
mornings, and some evening hours. The OYC expects some work to take place during the off months for
wrap-up reporting, next-season planning and preparation, budgeting, and solidifying staffing needs (see
compensation below).

COMPENSATION
This is a combined Salary and Hourly position. The JSPHSC is a salary position for the ten weeks of
the Junior Sailing Program as per the dates above. The JSPHSC shall be an hourly position when
performing other work described above during off months for wrap-up reporting, next season planning,
preparation, budgeting, and solidifying staffing needs. A Performance-Based Bonus is available.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS
You shall have a Bachelor’s Degree and training in elementary or early childhood education,
youth recreation, or equivalent experience. You shall have experience supervising or working with
children from eight to eighteen years old, experience supervising Staff ranging from 15 to 20
years old, and have completed a camping administration course or have two seasons of
equivalent experience.
You must be 21 years old.
You should have yacht club experience or with sailing club organizations.
You shall submit five (3) Positive work and personal recommendations.
OTHER REQUIREMENTS
You shall have a car and a valid driver’s license.
First aid/AED/CPR.
Positive CORI/SORI results.
Current certificate of immunization.
Involvement with related professional camping and sailing associations is helpful.
