CULVER SUMMER SCHOOL & CAMPS OVERVIEW
Founded in 1902, the Culver Summer Schools & Camps (CSSC) program is unique. It is a fun-filled, naturally beautiful 1,800-acre setting on the shores of Lake Maxinkuckee, Indiana's second-largest natural lake. Each summer, nearly 1,400 young people from around the world, take part in our three summer programs: Junior Woodcraft Camp (3 nights, ages 7-9 years old), Woodcraft Camp (ages 9 - 14 years old, six-weeks) and Upper Schools (ages 14-17 years old, six weeks). The summer students and campers at Culver develop positive self-esteem through accomplishment and self-discipline. We are a high-challenge, high-support environment for learning leadership skills that improve personal confidence.
CULVER SUMMER NAVAL SCHOOL (CSNS):
The Culver Summer Naval School is our flagship Summer program, founded in 1902 in support by the United States Navy under a special act of Congress with authorized the equipment for our inaugural Summer to set sail. Still to this day, The United States Navy recognizes Culver as an "Honor Naval School." In addition, Culver is the first non-profit affiliate member of US SAILING to certify in Small Boat, Keelboat, and Coastal Navigation. Our current fleet is comprised of over 120 boats, including the 65-foot, 25-ton R.H. Ledbetter. The R.H. Ledbetter is the largest fully rigged square-rigged vessel on fresh water in the world and is listed in the Tall Ships America registry.
