Jackson Yacht Club is seeking a Full-Time Sailing Director for our year-round sailing programs. Jackson Yacht Club is located on a large reservoir in central Mississippi. With a newly constructed Sailing Center, a beautiful Clubhouse, a swim team of 100+, a large harbor, and quick access to our sailing area, JYC offers a vibrant environment for water sports and sailing. Our Sailing Program offers year-round racing and clinics including junior programs, summer sailing camp and adult learn-to-sail. The Sailing Program fleet consists of Optimists, 420s, Sunfish, Viper 640s, various keelboats, and 2 Coach Boats. Additional private instruction will be available for youth and adults on other boats either club owned or privately owned.
JYC is seeking a Sailing Director who is motivated and enthusiastic to teach sailing – from beginners to racers. Applicants will need to possess strong leadership, organizational, teaching and communications skills.
Role & Responsibilities
- Management of the youth and adult sailing programs and school sailing teams
- Develop lesson plans and preparation for on and off the water instruction
- Organize schedules and conduct and conduct effective practices
- Organize and schedule summer sailing camp
- Recruit and develop junior sailors to support the sailing program
- Meet with school sailing team sponsors as needed
- Focus on safety while teaching boating skills
- Maintain records of participants and their progress in the sailing programs
- Maintain club owned sailboats for camps and sailing teams
- Maintain the McGowan Sailing Center in a neat and orderly manner
- Maintain power boats used for all sailing programs
- Organize youth participation in youth and high school regattas
- Lead, support and chaperone youth at offsite regattas (i.e. Junior Lipton’s)
- Teach adult sailing classes and private lessons
