Junior Instructors (JI’s) will perform duties as assigned by the Head Sailing Instructor and Sailing Director.
Our programs offer junior and adult sailing classes in Prams, Optis, and Sonars.
The position is for a 10 week period mid-June through late August with the ability to expand into the shoulder seasons. The JI must have prior sailing program experience.
Housing is not provided.
Compensation is competitive and commensurate with experience.
Duties including the following:
- Attend daily briefing and debriefing meetings with the Head Instructor and other Instructors.
- JIs shall present themselves professionally. The BYC uniform shall be worn while in the role of JI. Jis shall provide a good example and wear their life jacket and closed toe shoes on the dock, ramps and boats at all times. When conditions dictate, Jis should wear foul weather or sailing gear as appropriate to the circumstances.
- Attend and ultimately prepare Chalk-talks. JI’s present one chalk talk per week.
- Assist sailors in rigging and de rigging boats.
- Assist at dock with launches and dockings, facilitating crew changes as necessary.
- Assist Opti and Sonar Instructors as directed including demonstrating on the water skills.
- Crew in safety boat when necessary for Opti & Sonar group.
- Actively participate in the clean up on a daily basis.
- Assist Instructors with all Awards Night social activities.
- JIs will follow the direction of the Instructor(s) they are working with.
