Job Description

The Tred Avon Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program is seeking experienced and enthusiastic Racing Team Coaches for the summer 2022 season. Coaches work collaboratively with the Head Racing Team Coach to create a professional, challenging, and safe environment for competitive sailors in Optimists, Lasers and C420s. TAYC is located in the town of Oxford on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Oxford is 90 minutes from Washington D.C., Baltimore and the Delaware beaches, and two hours from Philadelphia. Founded in 1931, TAYC has a strong sailing tradition and has hosted national and international-level regattas.

TAYC’s program is split into a Sailing Camp and a Racing Team. The focus of the Racing Team is competitive sailing and travel to local and regional regattas. The Racing Team is split into Optimist Green Fleet, Optimist RWB Fleet, C420 Green Fleet and C420 and Laser Racing. The Racing Team practices at home in Oxford and travels to regattas within the Chesapeake Bay area. Racing Team Coaches will work collaboratively with the Head Racing Team Coach to:

       · Instruct sailors in sailing and racing;

       · Teach respect for the water, equipment, other sailors and TAYC staff and members;

       · Coordinate with sailors and parent volunteers on travel to regattas; and

       · Instill the importance of teamwork, accountability and care of boats and equipment

The Racing Team is supported by a dedicated parent volunteer organization, which supports the sailors and coaches in achieving TAYC’s objectives. The Racing Team’s ultimate goal is to give our sailors the skills and experience to become competitive sailors in the Chesapeake Bay area and beyond.

The term of employment is 9 weeks. June 13-16 is an orientation and set up week. The program with junior sailors runs for eight weeks,through August 14.The hours of the program are generally Monday-Thursday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm. In addition to the program hours, there are a few evening commitments (such as the annual awards banquet).

Pay is commensurate with experience. Housing will be provided for non-local coaches, and lunches are provided by the club.Coaches also have the opportunity to supplement their base pay with private lessons offered to junior sailors and adults by the club.
