Buffalo Yacht Club Foundation - Boating Education
The BYCF's Junior Sailing Program runs for eight weeks, Monday through Friday, 9am to 4pm in July and August. The 2025 program starts on June 30th and ends on August 22nd. The program offers seven different classes for kids ages 6 to 17 years old. The classes include, Beginner Pram, Advanced Pram, Opti Race, Adventure Sail, 1/2 Day Learn to Sail, Intro to Racing, and 420 Race Team.
QUALIFICATIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES
Must have a passion for sailing, the environment and working with kids.
Must have a positive, enthusiastic and flexible attitude.
Must possess strong problem solving skills and an ability to adapt to changing program needs depending on weather, number of students, number of boats, etc.
The sailing coach must be able to teach safety, boat handling and sailing theory to children and adults in dinghies and keelboats who are beginning, intermediate or racing sailors.
They must be able to develop and follow lesson plans that include on-land and on-the-water drills and inclement weather activities.
They must have empathy for the students and be able to adapt to their individual needs.
The coach is responsible for notifying students of any changes in class times and postponement due to weather conditions. Keeping accurate records of attendance, injuries and boat damage is required.
Helping to maintain and clean the docks, boats, and grounds before and after class.
