The Tred Avon Yacht Club Junior Sailing Program is seeking enthusiastic coaches for the summer 2023 season for it's Beginner Opti/Beginner C420 program and Club Sailing Team. TAYC is located in the town of Oxford, MD on Maryland's Eastern Shore. Oxford is 90 minutes from Washington D.C, Baltimore and the Delaware Beaches and to hours from Philadelphia. Founded in 1931, TAYC has a strong sailing tradition and has hosted national and international0level regattas.
Coaches for the Beginner Program will teach new sailors how to sail in Optimists (ages 7-13) or C420s (ages 13 and up) during two-week sessions, with a focus on preparing students to participate in more advanced sailing and racing.
The Club Team is focused on recreational sailing in Oxford, but some sailors may also choose to race in regattas around the Chesapeake Bay (Club Team coaches may be required to travel with the team to regattas). TAYC's race teams are supported by a dedicated parent volunteer organization, which supports the sailors and coaches in achieving TAYC's objectives. Out ultimate goal is to give our sailors the skills and experience to become competitive sailors in the Chesapeake Bay area and beyond.
The term of employment is 9 weeks, June 12 - August 12. June 12-16 is orientation and set up week. Instruction for sailors begins June 19 and runs for eight weeks (through August 12). August 14 and 15 are break down and clean-up days. The hours of the program are generally Monday - Thursday 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, but there are optional Friday practices as well. In addition to the program hours, there are a few evening commitments for instructors (such as the Annual Awards Banquet),
Pay is commensurate with experience, Housing is available and lunches are provided by the club. Coaches will have the opportunity to supplement their base pay with private lessons provided by the club to junior and adult sailors.
