Job Description

The Keelboat Director will be responsible for designing and managing educational and other programs for the Club’s on-the-water assets. This includes sailing instruction, power boat instruction, certifications, and helping maintain the assets. The Keelboat Director will also organize and manage non‐instructional events such as Women on the Water, Thursday Night Sailing, Frostbite Sailing, and casual uses of paddle boards and kayaks.

 

The Keelboat Director and any staff members working under his/her direction must be able to teach safety, boat handling, and sailing theory to individuals in keelboats who are beginning or intermediate sailors.

Job Requirements

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Plan and implement lesson plans that include dry land and on-the-water drills, as well as activities that can be conducted during inclement weather conditions.
  • Develop a roadmap for the keelboat program's growth and improvement.
  • Assist with the organization, staffing, and marketing of US Sailing Basic Keelboat and US Powerboat courses are available to our members and non‐members in the community.
  • Work with the Sailing School Director to coordinate instruction.
  • Organize and promote corporate sailing events within the organization.
  • The basic upkeep and maintenance of the fleet year-round, which includes rig tuning and the replacement of running rigging as necessary, as well as tracking the use of the boats, with the assistance of the Asset Manager (FKA Bosun) and Dock Staff.
  • Manages the recruitment of other instructors and oversees their performance.
  • Support the Club's members and guests by providing general assistance.
  • Providing and helping manage executive/administrative tasks such as budgeting, marketing, and communication with staff, members, guests, and non-members.
  • Required to attend committee meetings
  • Manage club rentals of the Fleet, including screening sailors and powerboaters skills of those who will rent keelboats, powerboats, and recreational watercraft (i.e., Kayaks and Paddleboards).
  • Manage billing and payments for classes and rentals with club staff.
  • Promote and market adult water activities in conjunction with the Communications department.
  • Assist with High School sailing in the Fall and Spring seasons as needed.
  • Assist with Races and Regattas as necessary.
  • Other duties as assigned by the On the Water Director

 

 

 

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum of two years of sailing and powerboating experience.
  • Extensive technical knowledge of sailing
  • Prior teaching experience is preferred.
  • College Degree, Sports Management, Education or equivalent preferred

 

License & Certification Requirements:

  • First Aid, CPR, and AED Certified
  • Heads Up Concussion Certification
  • NASBLA‐approved powerboat certification
  • US Sailing Keelboat Instructor Certification.
  • US Sailing Level 1 Preferred but not required.
  • US Powerboating Instructor Certification
  • US Sailing Keelboat Performance Certification is preferred but not required.
  • 25/50- or 100-Ton Master Captains License, preferred but not required
  • Current valid Driver’s License
