The Carolina Yacht Club is located in Wrightsville Beach, North Carolina. The club is nestled on an island on the coast, which enables us to have both a ‘river’ venue (current, smaller course racing, low waves/ chop) and also an ocean venue after a short sail (20 minutes), which provides wind, waves and moderate current. The city of Wrightsville Beach is well known for its ‘wind and waves’ and you can frequently find locals surfing or kiting year round. We are currently hiring for a seasonal summer race team coach with a potential to continue and lead our off season race teams. We currently have a High School 420 program as well as Optimist and Laser race sailors. This position would work with the Waterfront Director to grow and develop the race team program while fully supporting the Carolina Yacht Club (CYC) Junior Program Mission Statement.
This position focuses on the following:
Work with each race team sailor to develop and achieve their individual goals.
Develop and implement practice and regatta schedules that support accomplishing team and individual goals.
Coach the Race Team at practices and regattas, including travel per the approved schedule.
Recognize that CYC is a member service organization and the Junior program staff supports the membership.
Assist with the maintenance and repair of the junior program’s assets. To include performing some work, or tasking the work to be done to the Club’s maintenance infrastructure by outside contractors. These currently include C420s, Sunfish, Lasers, Safety (Motor) Boats, and Coaching equipment, develop, update, and maintain a written curriculum, including team goals and lesson plans that will support CYC junior sailors having clear pathways to progress through racing or recreational sailing at CYC.
Act as the primary contact point for information regarding all aspects of the race teams, including adjunct staff, parents, and sailors to be approved by the Waterfront Director. This includes routine “update” or “newsletter” emails, along with event and season-specific notices. This communication may include emails, phone calls, and articles in hard-copy publications.
