Job Description
The Barrington Yacht Club in Barrington, Rhode Island is hiring for a full-time Senior Instructors for the summer 2021 Sail Training Program (STP).
With a fleet of over 200 students and 62 boats, BYC operates one of the largest junior sailing programs on Narragansett Bay. BYC is located between Newport and Providence RI and provides convenient access to racing on Narragansett Bay, Cape Cod, and Long Island Sound.

For the position of Senior Instructor, we are seeking experienced and enthusiastic college-aged sailors. Our staff provides hands-on, minds-on instruction for students at ages 5-18 in Optimists, Prams, 420s, and RS Vision's. Senior Instructors are charged with significant responsibility including:

• Teaching junior sailors the fundamentals of sailing, racing, and seamanship
• Establishing respectful and constructive relationships with students and their families
• Managing Junior Instructors and Instructors-in-Training
• Overseeing the day-to-day maintenance of the Club’s sail and power fleet

The term of employment will span approximately nine weeks from mid June to late August—which includes a set-up week, eight weeks of instruction, and several days to assist with fleet breakdown. Classes meet daily from 9 am - 4 pm.

The ideal candidate will place an emphasis on teaching sailors to challenge themselves by always putting forth the necessary effort while learning to ask the right questions when faced with a difficult aspect of learning to race.
Maintaining open lines of communication when collaborating & planning with fellow Sr. Instructors and the STP Director
Contribute to an environment that fosters respect of equipment, colleagues and sailors
Leading by example with safety, fun and learning at the forefront.

Job Requirements:

Applicants must be at least 18 years old and a high school graduate by the start of the season,
US Sailing Level One Instructor Certification required by the start of the program,
CPR/First Aid Certification,
NSABLA-Approved Safe Boating Certificate (such as RI DEM Safe Boating Certificate or other state issued certification)
