Job Description

The NESS Educator will help New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) achieve its goal of world class instruction and innovative programming and partnerships. As part of NESS’s world class program staff, NESS Educators merge inquiry based learning with innovative programming to guide students on their personal journeys of discovery. This position develops lessons, implements NESS’s programs, and assists in maintaining program-related equipment. NESS Educators are on the front lines of providing NESS’s high-quality programs and maintaining NESS’s strong culture of safety. This is a great opportunity for a passionate, motivated individual to be an integral part of this vibrant, growing organization. Programs include academic year classes and summer programs, primarily for Pre-K-12 youth. You must be motivated, able to work within a team as well as on your own, and have proven skills working with children. This full-time, year-round position reports to a NESS Program Director.

New England Science & Sailing Foundation (NESS) offers a unique education model that empowers students with leadership, teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving skills to ensure academic success. We do this by creating a love of learning through ocean-based experiential programs that serve schools, teachers, and families. This STEM-based curriculum includes marine science, sailing, power boating, and adventure sports. NESS is the first, and only, program of its kind to be accredited by New England Association of Schools and Colleges (NEASC). Our goal is to advance academic opportunities for K-12 students of all backgrounds in both urban and suburban markets. Job Requirements
Requirements: Education/Certifications
• BA or BS in Marine Science, Biology, Oceanography or a related science
• Teaching certification desirable
• USCG OUPV 6-Pack License or greater (may be able to obtain at NESS)
• ARC Waterfront Lifeguarding, First Aid and CPR/AED for the Professional
Rescuer (Youth and Adults -may be able to obtain at NESS)
• Instructor certifications in kayaking, surfing, powerboating, and sailing (may be
able to obtain at NESS)
• Valid Driver’s License & your own transportation

• Skills and experience in inquiry-based learning
• Skills and instructional experience in swimming, kayaking, powerboating, sailing,
• Ability to drive and teach from a powerboat
• Effective skills in written and verbal communications, problem solving, decision
making, group dynamics, public speaking, and task organization
• Proven field and classroom management skills to effectively manage and
organize students while maintaining NESS classroom culture and implementing
NESS curriculum
• Strong team player and excellent motivator
• Ability to forge effective working relationships with NESS program staff,
operations staff, administrative staff, directors, volunteers, students, and parents
• Working knowledge of and experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel,
Outlook, PowerPoint)
