Position:                      Sailing/Race Director

Reports to:                   GM/COO, Cross Collaboration Executive Race Committee                     

The Sailing Director is the head of the StFYC Sailing Department. He/She is responsible for contributing to maintaining the club as the world’s premiere regatta venue through dedication to the highest-level race management, regatta coordination, youth sailing development, team leadership, and facilities and equipment management, striving to maintain an exceptional member experience and international recognition.

 StFYC is looking for an enthusiastic, self-motivated team player with a strong work ethic, extensive knowledge and experience in regatta and sailing operations as well as demonstrated competence in successfully dealing with sailing customers and club members. Private yacht club experience is a plus. Position requires candidate holds and maintains necessary certifications which may also be acquired while on the job.

 In keeping with the mission of StFYC and the charter of the ERC, the position promotes the sport of boating both pleasure and competitive. StFYC places significant focus on Junior as well as adult education through courses and clinics.

 Responsibilities:

·         Partner with ERC to set annual regatta schedule and manage bid process for grade 1 events

·         Partner with the StFYC GM, Controller and ERC Chairman to develop the annual operations and capital budget for the Sailing Department

·         Collaborate with the GM and the ERC to recruit, hire and train Sailing Department staff

·         Work closely with and communicate with club management, Marketing firm, and events department on all sailing related events

·         Attend and participate in club management team meetings (weekly)

·         Attend and participate in ERC meetings (monthly)

·         Attend weekly meetings with ERC Chairman and ERC leadership team

·         Partner with communications department to develop marketing and promotion plans

·         Collaborate with club department heads to contribute to success of club operations

 Regatta Planning and Execution:

·         Assist ERC to ensure adequate level of volunteer staffing for all events (where/when needed)

·         Support ERC to recruit and work with professional PROs when required for large regattas

·         Availability to Race Committee during events when necessary

·         Develop and maintain relationships with government agencies, e.g. USCG, Parks & Rec, etc.

·         Maintain relationships with Sailing Governing bodies, e.g. US Sailing, YRA, etc.

·         Support ERC, Regatta/Event Chair, and Sponsorship committee in obtaining and maintaining regatta sponsorship

·         Help to coordinate fulfillment of sponsorship responsibilities with club management and ERC

·         Coordinate and charter necessary boats for regatta operations

 Junior Program:

·         Manage Director, Juniors to ensure appropriate program offerings

·         Assist, when necessary, with program creation, instructor recruitment and training, safety protocol generation, marketing, etc.

 Waterfront and Docks:

·         Collaborate with Waterfront Director in areas of fleet maintenance, equipment acquisition and organization, asset, and fleet readiness for RC and general use.

 Fiscal Responsibilities:

·         Collaborate with StFYC GM and ERC on creation and management of the annual departmental and capital expense budget

·         Works with Management and ERC to ensure annual departmental budget goals are met

·         Oversight and management of individual regatta budgets (interface with Regatta Chair)

·         Creation and management of departmental capital budget

·         Manage long term asset rotation plan

 Education:

·         Provide support and coaching to STFYC PROs and Regatta/Event Chairs

·         Partner with ERC to create and execute educational offerings for volunteers and staff

·         Ensure club website is updated and accurate relative to sailing activities

·         Utilize Microsoft Office suite, Yacht Scoring, ClubSpot software, and other apps
