Job Description

Fleet & Marina Manager

The Annapolis Sailing School, founded in 1959, is the country’s oldest recreational sailing school. We offer a range of sailing experiences, from our KidShip programs on dinghies; to certifications in ASA 101, 103, 104 and beyond; to ongoing education and enjoyment with memberships in our KeelBoat Club. Located at the mouth of Back Creek, 1 mile by water from the Naval Academy, it offers great access to Chesapeake Bay. We are distinguished by our great fleet, great facilities and great employees. Our motto is “Seriously Fun”, which applies not only to how we teach students in a rigorous but relaxed manner, but also to the challenging but collegial environment we create for employees.

The Fleet & Marina Manager (FMM) is an important part of this team. This person will be responsible for the overall maintenance of 12 Rainbow 24’ keelboats; 5 30’-37’ keelboats with auxiliary power; 30+ dinghies of various types; 6 Power boats ranging from 16ft skiffs and ribs up to a 27ft Edgewater. The FMM will also be responsible for the marina and property maintenance – including floating docks, buildings, the areas for boat storage and equipment such as the 16 ton forklift and 3 ton hoist.

The ideal candidate will be good at project and people management, implementing a regular maintenance schedule, diagnosing what repairs need to be done, and whether they are to executed in-house or sent outside. As such the FMM will have to oversee other maintenance personnel, dockhands and vendors. Knowledge of sailboats and rigging is essential, knowledge of systems, mechanicals and engines a plus. The candidate will need to be physically fit, particularly for work in the off-season (November-March) when docks need to be hauled, refitted and splashed. Being an accomplished sailor is a plus, and depending on aptitude, interest and time, the FMM can be involved in teaching. The FMM will be part of the senior management team of the Sailing School, with input on decisions, helping guide the School as it continues its growth.
