Job Description

The Bellport Bay Sailing Foundation (BBSF) is seeking experienced and enthusiastic Opti Race Team Coach for our 2023 Summer season. A love of sailing and working with children is required.

The BBSF operates out of the Bellport Bay Yacht Club which was founded in 1906, our program has offered children the opportunity to learn to sail, make new friends, spend time outside and have lots of fun. All within the picturesque village of Bellport situated on Long Island’s Great South Bay approximately 60 miles east of New York City. With a sharp focus on safety, the program is designed to teach sailing, seamanship, teamwork, confidence and much more...

Our program has a proud history of excellent sailors who have excelled beyond the Great South Bay and raced around the country and internationally. Dozens of our alumni have sailed for top 20 college sailing teams several of them earning All-American honors and national championships.

We sail Optimist, Laser, 420 dinghies, and Cape Cod Mercuries, broken down by age and ability level. The South Shore of Long Island is famous for having a strong and consistent sea breeze throughout the summer.

We purposely limit the size of the program to ensure every child gets the instructor time and mentoring they deserve.

The term of employment is 7 weeks; beginning June 26th. Hours may vary but are typically Monday - Thursday 8:00 am – 4:00 pm, and Friday’s at Local Regattas up and down the bay. Travel off the Bay to minimum of 1 USODA Regional event. In addition to the 7 week program there is the opportunity for some work on either side of the program with fleet commissioning and pack-up. Compensation varies with experience. Housing is available for the right candidate from out of the area. International Applicants are accepted.

For consideration, please forward a resume and cover letter to Zach Runci at zrunci@sunymaritime.edu
