Job Description

Harbor Island Yacht Club continues to host the Harbor Island Yacht Club Sail Camp each summer! HIYC Sail Camp, is a nonprofit organization, under the umbrella of ‘’Nashville Sailing Foundation”. We have a beautiful gated community and marina based on Old Hickory Lake in Nashville, TN and are accepting applications for fun and safe summer camp Sailing Instructors for the 2023 summer season!

HIYC, was founded in 1961, and our first camp started in 1988 and is the longest running sail camp in Nashville. HIYC follows the US Sailing foundation instructional guidelines and certification. We also host the Level 1 Small Boat Instructor course in May. Please call for details or register online with US Sailing.

Our Sailing Instructors work with sailor/campers (ages 7-17), volunteer staff, and co-counselors to create a week long, M-F, sailing day camp program during the month of June for our members and community youth in the Nashville area.


This is a teaching position that requires small boat sailing experience, organization, decision-making, creativity, extensive safety and clear communication skills, with a minimum of holding a current Small Boat Level 1 US Sailing certification prior to the first day of employment at HIYC Sail Camp. We are looking forward to a fun and rewarding summer for all involved!


 
Job Requirements
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
• Safety of all campers and staff
• Create level appropriate instruction for small boat classes
• Develop a fun and enthusiastic environment each day of camp
• Follow HIYC waterfront policy and procedures
• Assure that all sailing and program equipment are safely and properly prepared and maintained for use by campers and staff
• Communicate and arrange for broken and unsafe equipment and facilities to be repaired with the onsite Fleet Manager
• Participate in open and positive ongoing communication with Camp leadership

QUALIFICATIONS:
Enjoy sailing!!! and hold a current US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification with current CPR. We reimburse instructors for the cost of the training at 100% after completion and passing and working during the summer sessions.
• Ability to operate small coach boats
• Energetic, friendly, approachable and able to relate well with both children and adults

Compensation is commensurate with experience.
