Assistant Dinghy Sailing Coach – Kings Point (USMMA)
Job Description
The U.S. Merchant Marine Academy is accepting applications for the Assistant Dinghy Sailing Coach. The position is located in Kings Point, NY on western Long Island and just a half hour outside of New York City. This primary purpose of this position is to assist in developing, managing, and coaching the Varsity Dinghy Sailing Team, under supervision of the Head Sailing Coach and Director of Varsity Programs. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
· assisting the Head Coach in coaching the Dinghy Sailing program (at practice, on-the-water coaching, travel to regattas, and leading team workouts/meetings)
· recruiting of qualified prospective student- athletes, while ensuring following of all ICSA rules
· fleet maintenance & basic to intermediate boat repair, including assisting in management of the program’s fleets of Z420s, FJs, Lasers, and Sonar keelboats
· regatta management & facility preparation for home events
· social media updates and public relations
Requirements:
· US Citizenship
· US Driver’s license
· Bachelor’s degree
· At least 3 years of coaching youth, HS, or collegiate sailors
· Demonstrated Intercollegiate sailing experience and/or competitive success on the Regional, National, or International level, appropriate for coaching national-caliber college sailors
Preferred experience:
· ICSA Sailing honors (All-America Team, All-Conference Team)
· US Sailing Small Boat Instructor Level 1, 2, 3 (or equivalent)
· First Aid/CPR/AED training

Compensation:
$55,000 – $75,000 commensurate with experience, paid via government contractor, Port Sailing School, Port Washington, NY.
