Job Description

Manchester Sailing Association (MSA) is a non-profit community sailing organization on the North Shore of Massachusetts, dedicated to providing access to sailing and excellent instruction. We are a fast-growing organization with explosive enrollment growth and ambitious goals. Our mission is to deliver world-class instruction in a supportive, competitive environment for sailors of all levels. At MSA, you’ll be part of a dynamic and well-resourced program where your impact matters. Our well-equipped fleet—including additional Optis and new safety boats in 2026—will equip you with the tools you need to deliver excellence. We offer competitive compensation, opportunities for professional growth, and the chance to help shape a growing program. You’ll work with dedicated colleagues, an enthusiastic community, and sailors who are eager to improve. You'll find more information about MSA's program, as well as the organization's history and vision, on our website.

We are hiring experienced and passionate sailors as Race and Green Fleet Coaches (Opti and C420) in addition to Senior Instructors to teach over 200 sailors through a range of classes across skill levels.

While specific duties vary by role, successful candidates will:

  • Deliver high-quality, structured on-water coaching and instruction consistent with best practices in youth sail training and racing programs
  • Mentor junior staff and support a positive, community-oriented culture
  • Ensure the safe and efficient operation of boats and safety craft
  • Assist with rigging, boat maintenance, and fleet stewardship
  • Communicate clearly with sailors, parents, and program leadership
  • Participate in pre-season training and staff development.

MSA offers competitive compensation, commensurate with experience, and housing may be arranged for out-of-town candidates. The center of our season is a high-quality 8-week Junior Sailing Program (June 22–August 14). Additional earning opportunities outside the core program are available to Junior Sailing Staff, including evening/weekend adult sailing classes and private lessons for sailors of all ages/skill levels.

Job Requirements
  • Strong sailing and coaching/instructional experience
  • A commitment to positive, inclusive, and high-impact instruction.
  • The ability to thrive in a team environment and contribute to a mission-driven culture.
  • Certifications: US Sailing Level 1 Small Boat Instructor (or higher); CPR/First-Aid; SafeSport; MA Boating Safety Card (or NASBLA-approved equivalent); ability to pass a CORI and SORI background check
Please submit a resume, cover letter, and references to the Program Director, Tommy McCormick, via email (tommy@manchestersailing.org). Include a brief statement of your coaching/professional approach and any relevant certifications. Applications will be reviewed continuously, and qualified candidates may be invited to interview at any point during the hiring cycle. Manchester Sailing Association values diversity in experience, background, and perspective and believes it strengthens our program and community. We are proud to be an equal opportunity employer and encourage all qualified candidates to apply.
