Job Description

Gifft Hill School, in St. John, U.S. Virgin Islands, is seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as a Middle and High School Sailing Coach and Equipment Manager. The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and leading our middle and high school sailing program and managing a fleet of boats and equipment in conjunction with the local community recreational sailing program. This is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact by introducing young people, including a large number of students who are traditionally underrepresented in sailing, to the sport and providing them with valuable skills and experiences.

Job Requirements
Develop and implement a comprehensive sailing program for middle and high school students, including both on-water instruction and classroom-based learning.- Provide hands-on coaching and mentoring to students, focusing on skill development, safety, and sportsmanship.- Manage the organization's fleet of boats and equipment, including maintenance, repairs, and inventory management.- Coordinate regatta participation and logistics, including travel arrangements and equipment transport.- Collaborate with school administrators, parents, and community partners to promote and support the sailing program.- Foster a positive and inclusive team culture that values diversity, respect, and cooperation.- Ensure compliance with safety protocols and regulations related to sailing activities. Extensive experience sailing a variety of boats, including Optis, Lasers, ICs, Sunfish, and others.- Previous coaching experience, preferably in a youth or educational setting.- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, and volunteers.- Resourcefulness and adaptability, with the ability to problem-solve and manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.- Passion for working with children from under-represented communities and helping them develop confidence, leadership, and resilience.- Commitment to promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion in all aspects of the sailing program.- Valid driver's license and ability to transport equipment as needed.
