Job Description

 New Bedford Yacht Club, on Buzzards Bay in South Dartmouth, Mass., is seeking applications for summer coaches for both our Club 420 and Opti Race Teams. Enthusiastic applicants can expect a great work environment, excellent coach boats and sailing conditions. Our coaches train and motivate competent sailors in more advanced boat handling, racing skills and strategies. Coaches will help determine the team’s travel schedule and help with sailor, parent and boat prep.

The NBYC Sailing School educates sailors from age 5-18 in all aspects of sailing and seamanship with an emphasis on teamwork and sportsmanship. Our staff collaborates to develop varied programming for Tiller Tots, Optis, O’pen Skiffs, Club 420’s, Adventure Sailing and Foiling Fridays with our UFO skiffs.

Job Requirements
Availability from mid-June to mid-August

US Sailing Level 1 (or equivalent)

Ability to run effective challenging practice, design appropriate curriculum

Relevant racing experience in 420, opti, hs, college, other

Experience coaching and supervising sailors at regattas

Ability to foster strong teamwork amongst sailors

Ability to maintain effective communication between Sailing School Director, parents and sailors

Availability to travel to regional regattas, ability to drive truck with trailer a plus.
