Norwalk Yacht Club seeks a full-time Sailing Director to help lead our exciting and growing adult and junior sailing programs.
The Sailing Director (“SD”) is responsible for the management and oversight of the Norwalk Yacht Cub’s Sailing Programs: Ideal 18, Jr. Sailing, Women On The Water, Regatta and Winter Sailing Programs.
Success will be measured by member participation, member satisfaction and the enhanced reputation of the Programs around Long island Sound. Further, the Sailing Director supports the General Manager of the Club in areas of boat maintenance as directed by the General Manager in concert with the Flag. This is a full time, year-round position. The Sailing Director reports to the General Manager and to the pertinent Committee Chairs and is considered to be an important and senior Club employee.
Good communication skills and the ability to apply these skills to furthering the mission of the Club is a primary qualification. Sailing, racing, coaching and general boating experience, employment history, and service-related work experience will be the key metrics used for the choice of candidate.
The ability to work with online-based communication tools, especially social media tools (primarily Facebook and Instagram), will be a major component to being successful in this position The Sailing Director must be a self-starter. He or she must be able to both take initiative and work closely with Committee Chairs who have busy professional schedules.
Job Requirements: Bachelor’s degree, at least 5 years of sailing instruction, Level 2 Instructor (preferably Level 3) or international equivalent certification, US Powerboating Safe Powerboat-Handling certificate, CT Safe Boating Certificate, current First Aid and CPR/AED certificates.
