Job Description
The Ocean City Yacht Club of Ocean City, New Jersey is looking for a Youth Sailing Program junior sailing Co-Director. The position is a seasonal contract that runs from mid-June through mid-August. The successful applicant should be comfortable around the water. Sailing and or power boating experience is desirable but not required. The position serves as the junior sailing program’s on land complement to the “on water” Co-Director.
Responsibilities cover two areas. The Co-Director will manage the operational and administrative functions of the youth sailing program. The Co-Director will also run the Minnows program.
Youth Sailing Program
- Responsibilities include:
- Coordinating the sailing instructor’s schedules and classes
- Organizing travel to and from regattas
- Overseeing the junior sailors as the prepared, launch boats and return from sailing
- Monitor activities on the water and on land for safety purposes
- Maintain attendance records, files of sailor performance, medical and family contact information.
- Work with the instructors to document the children’s progress in sailing, and providing sailing assessments
- Enter content for the OCYC e-newsletter on the sailing programs
- Work with the Co-Director to monitor equipment and assess maintenance needs of the OCYC fleet boats
- Maintain records of all instructors’ certifications, clearances, and schedule any training required such as first aid, CPR and concussion awareness.
- Monitor weather during classes through weather websites and advise instructors of changing conditions
- Greet visitors to the club building and providing information on the program to interested parents
- Maintain records of payments related to the OCYC fleet, storage and class fees
- Track and manage payroll for sailing instructors
- Answer phone calls and emails addressed to the Youth Sailing Program
Minnows Camp Coordinator Program Responsibilities
Minnows is a one week 9 AM to 12 noon introduction to water safety, careers on the sea, marine biology, and boating for 5-7 year olds. The curriculum for this program and the list of volunteers is established and will be provided to the camp coordinator. The coordinator will be responsible for implementing the five-day program twice during the summer season, assessing and purchasing craft supplies, and communicating with parents and with the volunteers who teach the marine biology, sailing, and powerboating lessons in the Minnows curriculum..
