Job Description

Located on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, the Rock Hall Yacht Club Sailing School is a fun, family-oriented, educational sailing center. We are seeking a mature, responsible, enthusiastic summer Sailing Operations Director to manage our summer sailing program. The candidate will have the necessary experience and expertise to oversee various class levels (from Pee-Wee to Racing Team), direct the program staff, and ensure fleet maintenance.

Our season begins mid June and runs through mid August, 10 weeks. Sailing programs run mornings and afternoons 5-days per week from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm for ages 5-18. We have Adult private lessons and classes which also run occasionally on weekends during the summer. 

Responsibilities:

  • Welcome classes, ensure daily float / activity plan and safety of sail and power vessels.
  • Ensure curriculum and lesson plans are executed, update lesson plans as needed.
  • Manage summer staff schedule and coordinate staff meetings.
  • Ensure adequate staffing for all programs based on safety and registration.
  • Hands-on daily fleet maintenance and repairs
  • Build strong relationships with parents and guardians by providing timely and open communication (written and verbal) about their children's well-being and development (this includes after program hours as necessary).
  • Constant communication up and down to ensure safety, parts availability, timely resolution of any issue.
  • Commitment to an active, hands-on, onsite 10 week job with the goal of a positive and fun sailing and learning experience for all students.

Job Requirements

The ideal candidate will be an active sailor, have competitive racing experience, be able to perform fleet maintenance, and be profcient with coaching skills. In addition, candidates should have demonstrated experience with teaching or leading children, adults, and staff.

Candidates must have successfully completed the following courses before the season begins:

  • US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor Course (Level 2 or higher preferred)
  • First Aid, CPR, and SafeSport certifications
  • Maryland Safe Boating Course (or equivalent) and be proficient handling a 13’ - 18’ powerboat.
