Job Description

Sarasota Yacht Club, founded in 1907, has deep historical roots in the Tampa Bay Area and has been awarded as a Distinguished Elite Club, Platinum Club of America, & Platinum Club of the World for multiple years in a row. We provide a 5 star experience for all members and visitors, and work to fulfill our core values of respect, honestly, pride, teamwork, and commitment.

 

SYC is searching for a dedicated, professional Opti Race Team Coach starting August 2023. The candidate should have experience competing and coaching at the highest levels of youth and/or college sailing. Coaches will be responsible for teaching the finer points of boat set up, rigging, boat handling, racing tactics and the racing rules of sailing. Additional instruction in team racing is also required. Racing coaches will need to be flexible in supporting the full breadth of sailing instruction at Sarasota Yacht Club, from beginner to advanced classes. We practice twice a week, usually on weekends, and attend many 2-4 day regattas around the state of Florida and beyond. There is currently one other RWB Coach that the candidate would be working alongside with to plan and execute effective practices and coaching.

On practice Days, Lunch is provided.

Ability to hold private lessons with SYC coach boats

Travel for regattas re-imbursed

Job Requirements
• Minimum 18yrs old
• Must be authorized to work in the United States
• NASBLA Boating License
• Current SafeSport Certified
• Able to Pass a State of Florida Level 2 Background Check
• Current and Valid Driver's License
• At least 3 seasons of sailing instructing/coaching experience
• Strong and demonstrated dinghy racing experience
• US Sailing Level 1 Certification required, Level 2 preferred
• Current CPR/ First Aid Certification
• Commitment of one year + required

Preferred qualifications
-Experience working on and maintaining a fleet of small dinghy sailboats
-Current or former collegiate sailing and/or high school racing is preferred
-Experience planning a regatta/being on race committee
-A Good Role Model for Youth
-Passionate about the sport of Sailing
-Team Player
-Hardworking
-Able to Lift and Move Small Sailboats on Dollies and trailers
-polite and effective correspondence with team parents
-Logistical and Management Experience
