Optimist Beginner Instructor/Green Coach

Hyannis Yacht Club is looking for a beginner-level Opti Coach to join our Green Fleet sailing program. The ideal candidate will maintain high standards for training sailors while creating a safe, engaging, and fun environment. Responsibilities include teaching two lessons a day from 9-12 and 1-4 Monday through Friday,  maintaining the club’s equipment and facilities, and creating lesson plans tailored to sailors' abilities and progress to help them advance using the HYC curriculum/class goals. There may also be opportunities to travel with sailors to local Green Fleet Optimist regattas throughout the summer. 

There will be opportunities to work with adult sailors in our adult learn to sail program from 6-8 on Wednesday nights, schedule private lessons for Opti sailors outside of class hours, and to coach on weekends in our fall program for additional hours. 

Applicants should have experience working with children ages 7–12, ideally in a coaching capacity. A strong understanding of Optis is required, with prior experience either sailing or coaching the boat. Staff housing is available if needed. A Level 1 coaching certification is required. However, we are open to supporting applicants who need to complete this certification before the sailing season begins. Lastly, applicants need to be confident in their ability to drive a motorboat while coaching beginner sailors. Hourly rate is dependent on past experience and training.
