Job Description

Bluenose Yachts, a leading New England sailboat dealer and charter company, with offices in Newport, Portsmouth, Boston and Noank, CT, is launching a sailing school in Newport, RI this summer and is looking for experienced sailing instructors to help build and manage the program. The Bluenose Sailing School will offer a variety of courses to sailors of varying skill levels from basic coastal cruising to advanced performance racing.

If you are a qualified ASA instructor, love teaching sailing, have excellent “people” skills, a strong racing resume, and want to help build the best performance sailing school in the USA, this could be the ideal opportunity for you!

  • Assist building and managing a Performance Sailing School located in Newport, Rhode Island.
  • Offer ASA and customized training on a Jeanneau 379 and race training on a Sun Fast 3300.
  • Hire and train additional instructors as the program grows.
  • Assist in identifying a winter location for the sailing school in the Bahamas or Caribbean.
  • Identify courses to offer and develop course curriculum and materials.
  • Provide input on the sailing school website.
  • Assist with marketing efforts, including E-Blasts, social media presence, online advertising, print materials, boat shows, and word of mouth.
  • Help maintain, clean and service the boats used for the sailing school.
  • Ensure all boats are properly equipped with the necessary safety equipment and meet USCG requirements.

Compensation & Benefits

Initially, this is a full-time seasonal position (minimum of 3 months) with the potential to become a year-round position, depending upon performance, to manage bases in Newport and the Bahamas/Caribbean in the winter.

Competitive base salary with potential for performance-related incentives.

Job Requirements
• Minimum five years’ experience teaching on keelboats, cruising yachts, and performance boats.
• Passion for sailing and training both new and experienced sailors.
• Long history of experience with boating and boats.
• ASA certified instructor (101-106 preferred).
• US Coast Guard License (100-Ton) preferred.
• Excellent people and communication skills.
• Strong organization and project management skills.
• Ability to work flexible hours and weekends.
• U.S. citizen or valid green card holder.
• Strong desire to help build the program into a thriving, multi-location sailing school.
