Job Description

The Treasure Island Sailing Center is seeking candidates for Program Director.  The Program Director will support TISC by ensuring quality staffing, maximizing student enrollment, providing a top-notch youth development and education experience for our participants, and an inspiring and exciting place to work for program staff.

The Program Director(s) are responsible for:

  • Scheduling classes, trainings, and events for all Youth, Adult and Adaptive Programs, including:
    • Youth Summer Camp (8 weeks, plus training; includes youth group sailing and some adaptive sailing)
    • Spring and Fall Instructional Lessons on the weekends
    • Field Trip Program for SFUSD 4th graders
    • Adult Instructional Dinghy Program
    • Corporate/Teambuilding Program
  • Management of Instructional Staff and Interns, including hiring and firing, team building, instructor training, etc
  • Quality Control of existing programs, including instructor and class audits, and troubleshooting problems with participants and classes
  • Development of new classes to support a pathway for youth, adults and people with disabilities to achieve regular and affordable access to the Bay, with a focus on increasing opportunities for adults and people with disabilities, with specific goals to:
    • Increase adaptive sailing opportunities for youth and adults
    • Increase regular sailing and instructional opportunities for adults
    • Develop additional performance/racing programs for youth, including a foiling program
    • Develop a rental program to facilitate more sailing opportunities for our community

 

Job Requirements

Education/Training

  • Hold a current US Sailing Level 1 Small Boat Instructor certification at a minimum (L2 and 3 preffered, TISC can help you obtain these)
  • CPR & First Aid
  • SafeSport Training
  • CA State Boater’s license or out of state equivalent

Knowledge and Experience

  • 3+ experience in sailing instruction
  • 3+ years experience as a program director (not necessarily in sailing)
  • Strong management and team player skills
  • Strong problem solving skills and an ability to adapt to changing program needs
  • Passionate about youth development and leadership, diversity on the water, equity in sports, developing the maritime economy and environmental stewardship
  • Can exemplify TISC's values of GRIT - Growth, Resilience, Integrity and Teamwork
