Located on the Eastern Shore of the Chesapeake Bay, the Rock Hall Yacht Club Sailing School (RHYCSS) is a fun, family-oriented, educational sailing center. We are seeking a mature, responsible, enthusiastic summer Sailing Program Director to manage our summer sailing programs. The candidate will have the necessary experience and expertise to oversee various class levels, direct the program staff, and ensure fleet maintenance. The Program Director will be a key member of our leadership team, which is responsible for complete organizational oversight. The applicant should be a well-rounded professional who is highly organized and self-motivated with excellent communication skills. The applicant should be a team player prepared to work alongside the Executive Director to achieve collective goals and steer the organization as a whole. This is a multifaceted position and affords the opportunity to grow,develop, and evolve over time.
Our season begins mid June and runs through mid August, 10 weeks. Sailing programs run mornings and afternoons 5-days per week from 8:30 am - 4:30 pm for ages 5-18. We have Adult private lessons and classes which also run occasionally on weekends during the summer.
Responsibilities / Requirements:
- Ensure daily float plan / activity plan and ensure safety of sail and power vessels.
- Welcome all classes provide overview of RHYCSS
- Oversee and ensure implementation of curriculum and lesson plans; regularly update lesson plans as needed to meet program goals.
- Manage summer staff schedule based on program enrollment; coordinate and lead regular staff meetings.
- Ensure adequate staffing for all programs in accordance with safety requirements and registration numbers.
- Perform hands-on daily fleet inspection, maintenance, and repairs to ensure vessels remain in safe and operable condition.
- Build strong relationships with parents and guardians by providing timely and open communication (written and verbal) about their children's well-being and development.
- Maintain constant communication up and down to ensure safety, parts availability, timely resolution of any issue, plan forward.
- Commit to an active, onsite presence throughout the 10 week summer program with focus on creating a fun, educational, and safe environment for all students.
