Our Club's yacht racing, leisure, intra and inter club competitions, and sporting events provide an engaging and enjoyable social experience for our members and their families in which they can participate with pride and enthusiasm.
Job Summary:
The Larchmont Yacht Club seeks an experienced and proactive Race Coach to lead our high school sailing teams and oversee a race group during our summer junior program. The Race Coach will work with the Larchmont Yacht Club Waterfront Department to provide programming to empower our members to perform at any level of sailing. Reporting directly to the Sailing Director, the successful candidate will organize and execute practice sessions, guide on-water coaching, and assist with winter Frostbiting sessions. The role demands excellent organizational skills, effective communication abilities, and a deep understanding of sailing dynamics and program management to further enhance the club's mission of promoting yachting and sportsmanship.
Qualifications
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Lead the LYC High School sailing teams including practice planning and on-water coaching
- Lead coach of a summer Race Team - C420 or Opti
- Assist with Frostbiting on-water
- Create additional sailing programming and clinics in the shoulder seasons
Job Tasks/Duties:
- Take ownership of routine fleet maintenance including proper storage
- Develop and coach additional programming for LYC adult and junior members
- Promote a culture that reflects the mission of Larchmont Yacht Club
- Quick response times to both email and phone inquiries during working hours
- Schedule sailing as required, e.g. concierge sailing program, private lessons
- Be an on-water lead and example for seasonal coaches
- Coordinate boat repairs with Marine Facilities
Education and/or Experience:
- Prior coaching experience, preferably high school or collegiate.
- Competitive collegiate and/or international sailing experience, preferred.
- Substantial dinghy racing experience, preferred.
- Bachelor's Degree, required.
Licenses and Special Requirements
- US Sailing Level 1 or higher certification
- Basic First Aid and CPR (training available)
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug testing
- Ability to expertly operate a powerboat
- Safe Sport Certified
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to comply with the Club's policies and procedures
- Must be able to lift 50lbs or more
- Work evenings and weekend days as assigned
- Work outdoors in all weather conditions
- Working on weekends is required as assigned
- Demonstrated ability to work with and relate well to students
Compensation:
