Hyannis Yacht Club is seeking several race coaches to join our 420 and Optimist Race programs. Hyannis Yacht Club has been committed to maintaining one of the premier racing programs in Southern Massachusetts, including impeccably maintained Club 420’s, Ribcraft coach boats, new Devoti Club 420’s and more.
We are seeking experienced Race Coaches to join our sailing program. The ideal candidate will maintain high standards and rigorous practices for our sailors while helping to develop each individual's love and respect for the sport. On-site responsibilities include planning 4-6 weekly practices Monday through Friday, maintaining equipment in conjunction with our Waterfront Staff, and providing clear communication with parents and caregivers regarding travel plans. Off-site responsibilities include providing coaching for up to six boats at local and regional regattas and assisting the Program Director and Assistant Program Director with planning and execution of regatta logistics. Our regatta schedule typically includes 8-10 regattas per summer.
Applicants should have experience working with children ages 8+, ideally in a coaching capacity. A strong understanding of racing Optis, Club 420’s, and/or ILCA dinghies (Lasers) is required. Staff housing is available if needed. A US Sailing Level 1 instructor certification is required and a US Sailing Level 2 coaching certification is strongly encouraged. Hyannis YC is open to supporting applicants who need to complete either certification before the sailing season begins. Applicants need to be proficient in powerboat operation in a variety of wind and surf conditions while coaching sailors.
Rate of pay is dependent on past experience and training. There will be opportunities to work with adult sailors in our adult learn to sail program from 6-8 on Wednesday nights, schedule private lessons for Opti sailors outside of class hours, and to coach on weekends in our pre-season and post-season programs for additional hours.
