Job Description
Northwestern University Recreation is currently seeking candidates for the Facility Coordinator position to support Northwestern Sailing Center (NUSC) and Blomquist Recreation Center. The Facility Coordinator will manage the day-to-day facility operations at Blomquist Recreation Center during the academic year and at NUSC during the summer quarter. The ideal candidate should possess experience in front-line staff management, and candidates with previous experience in outdoor or adventure education, facility operations, or aquatics/waterfront are encouraged to apply.

The Northwestern University Sailing Center is situated on the beautiful shores of Lake Michigan and provides recreational opportunities to both students and the greater Evanston community. The facility offers rentals, memberships, adult classes, and youth camps. Given the dynamic nature of Lake Michigan, the chosen candidate will be taught required skills during the first year of employment, which includes powerboat operation, open water rescue techniques, sailing proficiency, windsurfing proficiency, kayak/SUP skills, and rigging/repair of the NUSC fleet. The candidate will also be expected to obtain certifications such as US Sailing Certified Safe Powerboat Handling, Safety Rescue Instructor, and US Sailing Level 1 Instructor within the first six months of employment.

*As directed, support NUSC camps, clinics, rentals, and special events.

*Assist with the planning, coordinating, and training of temporary staff. Provides coaching, developmental training, and leadership opportunities to students and temporary staff, as needed.
*Report any unsafe facility conditions to the Associate Director of Recreation Facilities & Operations.
*Conducts facility-wide evaluation to ensure the policies and procedures are being enforced and that a safe environment for recreation prevails. Takes action to correct safety and liability hazards.
*Develop relationships with members and staff; manage their requests and issues timely and professionally. Responds to patrons’ needs/complaints concerning policies, procedures, and programs professionally, courteously, and in a knowledgeable manner.
*Collaborate with university departments/units to provide recreational opportunities or partnerships that enhance the physical and emotional well-being of the university community (both campuses).
