The Department of Athletics of the California State University Maritime Academy is accepting applications for a full-time Sailing and Recreational Boating Coach. ABOUT CALIFORNIA STATE UNIVERSITY MARITIME ACADEMY (Cal Maritime): Located on a compact but scenic waterfront campus in Vallejo, California (30 miles northeast of San Francisco), California State University Maritime Academy (Cal Maritime) is a unique and specialized campus of the 23-campus system. Under the direction of the Director of Athletics and Physical Education, the Director of Sailing and Recreational Boating is responsible for all aspects of Cal Maritime's Sailing program, including adhering to the rules of the PCCSC Conference, the ICSA, Department of Athletics and Physical Education, and Cal Maritime. Essential duties include providing administrative management to the program, cadet-athlete recruitment, development and management of budget, program scheduling, personnel management, teach PHE sailing classes, supervision of athletics facilities and scheduled activities, and contribute to advancement.




• Bachelor's degree


• A minimum of five years of collegiate or professional coaching experience required


• Demonstrated evidence as US Sailing Level One instructor


• Demonstrated evidence as a Basic Keelboat Instructor.


• Must possess and maintain a valid license to drive in the State of California.




• Experience in sailing instruction and coaching FJ and laser class dinghy and big boat for recreation and racing.


• Paddleboard instructor.


SALARY COMPENSATION: Salary is commensurate with the education, qualifications, and experience of the individual.

• The person holding this position is considered a ‘mandated reporter' under the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and is required to comply with the requirements set forth in CSU Executive Order 1083 revised July 21, 2017 as a condition of employment.


• This position is a “designated position” in the California State University's Conflict of Interest Code. The successful candidate accepting this position is required to file Conflict of Interest forms subject to the regulations of the Fair Political Practices Commission.


• This position requires a valid California driver's license to enable the driving of Cal Maritime vehicles and tools which include but are not limited to outboard motors, hand tools, truck towing, power tools, diesel engines, and golf carts.


• Completion of the CSU Defensive Driving Training Class




• On the job, the employee is: exposed to excessive noise; around moving machinery; Is exposed to marked changes in temperature and/or humidity; Is exposed to dust, fumes, gases, radiation, microwave (circle); and Drives motorized equipment


• The role requires regularly working outdoors and routinely exposed to the sun. The position may be exposed to extreme heat or cold and rain, in addition to working on uneven slippery surfaces.


• Typical classroom and office environment are in a two-story building with elevator access.




• Applicants must provide proof of US citizenship or authorization to work in the United States within three days from the date of hire.


• A background check investigation (including a criminal records check and fingerprinting) is required prior to employment. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the application status of applicants or continued employment of a current CSU employees who was conditionally offered the position.
