Job Description

This staff position focused on the Club’s mission is needed to:

  • Maintain consistency and accountability in the management of events and other activities;

  • Combat volunteer burnout;

  • Provide a single point of contact for sailing and regattas in the office instead of rotating annual volunteers and flag officers.

Essential Duties include:

  • Improving sailing at Bayview Yacht Club and sustaining our mission

  • Leading the management, marketing, scheduling, planning, budgeting, and administration of local racing events, Club Boat fleet, clinics, and Adult Learn-To-Sail program.

  • In conjunction with the Sailing Committee, assisting with volunteer coordination, race committee work, etc. Preparing the annual Sailing events and Club Boat budgets. Provide input on annual regatta budgets.

  • Ensuring proper maintenance and registration on all Race Committee (RC) vessels and race management equipment. Supervising Power Fleet manager (RC boats) and overseeing all phases of calendar/equipment/supply purchases for those assets.

  • Encouraging and promoting widespread member involvement in race committee activities. Develop training programs and materials to keep all phases of the volunteer Race Committee educated.

  • Organizing Winter Seminars

  • Preparing reports for the Board of Governors

  • Strategic planning for Club’s future efforts

  • Maintain updated knowledge of products, industry trends, and methods.

  • Maintain awareness of and continually practice safe work habits.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Additional tasks with Club Boat Program:

  • Coordinate the calendar of member-driven racing/training programs, regattas, and clinics in Club boats.

  • Oversee Club Boat inventory and repair, accounting and staff

  • Initiate billing for Club Boat memberships, rentals, program/event charter, and repairs. Receive, facilitate, and document reservations for U20s from fleet members.

  • Develop, maintain, and enforce Club Boat policies and procedures

  • Recruit and organize corporate team-building events with Club Boats

  • In conjunction with the Sponsorship Committee, recruiting and managing sponsorships, ensuring deliverables are met, writing reports, etc.

Additional Tasks related to Other Regattas and Events:

  • Responsible for the publicity, personnel, equipment, conduct and fiscal management of sailing events hosted by BYC and working with Club volunteers to execute events including Bayview One Design Regatta, Thursday Night Series (Hitchhiker program) and other Bayview-hosted events including the Fleet Review.

  • Work with governing bodies, event chairs, committees and volunteers appointed by the Commodore and other committees, in addition to the Race and Protest Committees and Event Chairs for club events.

  • Provide supervision and management of all BYC racing activities in collaboration with RC Chair and PRO for event as required.

  • Responsible for dissemination of race documents and race results in a timely fashion.

  • Develop playbooks for events

  • Manage race committee equipment

  • Create additional pathways into the sport of sailing

  • Organize cruising events

  • Organize remote-control sailing events

  • Other reasonable duties as requested by Office or members.


Compensation Range: 65K to 80K, plus benefits. Benefits include health, vision, dental, 401k, paid time off, employee meals, flexible work schedule

Friendly and professional tone and action

Proficient in MS Office Suite, internet navigation, and social media platforms

Availability to work long hours in seasonal elements that requires some physical labor.
