Job Description

Pleon Yacht Club is seeking experienced and motivated sailing coaches and instructors to join our summer coaching team. We are hiring for a variety of positions across our Optimist, C420, ILCA, and adventure sailing classes. Ideal candidates are passionate about coaching youth sailing and are committed to creating a supportive, challenging, and team-oriented learning environment.

Coaches will be assigned to one of the classes listed on our website based on experience, ranging from Intro to Pleon through our advanced Race Teams. Beginner-Intermediate level coaches will focus on getting sailors confident with sailing fundamentals and excited about the sport so they continue progressing each summer. Race Team coaches will travel with their highly-motivated sailors to regattas and will base their summer curriculum off of developing competitive technical and strategic racing skills. All Pleon coaches are expected to have structured daily lesson plans that they tailor and adjust to their team's goals as well as maintain a high standard of professionalism to foster a culture of growth and respect among sailors and staff. It is essential for all coaches to collaborate and help one another as a team both on and off the water to help the program run efficiently and effectively.

Pleon Yacht Club is a very unique sailing program founded in 1887 and is the oldest Junior Yacht Club in the world. Pleon offers various activities for its members including club championships, a weekly Wednesday race series followed by Commodore-lead BBQ, committee meetings, movie and family sail nights, etc. As determined by the Program Director, coaches will be required to work several of these events and encourage their sailors to get involved. Pleon prides itself in promoting independence for local youth sailors and coaches will quickly learn how special Pleon is.
