Job Description

Melbourne Yacht Club (MYC) in Melbourne, Florida is looking for a part-time Sailing Education Manager who can lead sailing/ boating operations. The selected candidate will report to the Director of Sailing Education. Performance will be assessed twice annually, once by the Director of Sailing Education and once by the full Board of Directors (BOD). The Manager shall support Board of Directors (BOD) requests, and participate in monthly BOD meetings as required. This is perceived as a seasonal position but may be permanent for the aspiring candidate. The specific duties of the Manager are many and diverse:

Boating/ Sailing Operations:

· Lead instructor for the MYC Sailing Education Program

o Assist the Director in developing promotion materials and presenting same at various nearby locations

o Arrange the sailing education schedule in each of three (???) semesters, including youth and adult sections

o Supervise junior instructors as to the MYC program principles

o Greet and meet with parents as students arrive, and also to advise on student progress; supervise volunteers as needed

o Teach multiple classes in the basics of sailing small boats (Opti prams, 420’s, Sunfish, Lasers)

· Maintain small boat/ dinghy storage and appearance

· Collect misplaced equipment and store appropriately

· Attend to Club-owned boat maintenance and cleanliness

· Repair minor issues - rigging, sails, hull, etc.

· Review QR spreadsheet and coordinate repairs with Sailing Education

· Haul out and deliver RC boats.

· Assist MYC members with on-campus activities as requested

Facility Activities

· Update Webpage

· Inform House Director of any needs or supplies


Knowledge, Skills, and Expertise

• High school diploma, Bachelor’s Degree preferred

• Minimum 2 years in a camp, school, or similar environment

• US Sailing Level One Instructor required; Level Two or higher preferred

• CPR/First Aid Certification

• Experienced swimmer, lifeguard experience is desirable

• Sailboat repair & maintenance experience, including fiberglass repair and painting

• Working knowledge of marine systems, diesel engines

• Small powerboat handling skills

· Works well in different types of relationships such as parents, employees, volunteers, and members

• Self-starter and can confidently work independently

• Working knowledge of Microsoft Office

• Working knowledge of Google Suite

Physical Demands

The venue is NOT ADA compliant. Lifting is mandatory. Some activities will be strenuous.
