Position: Sailing Director

Seeking a sailing "professional" with expertise in program management. This leadership role is full time from June to August with part-time responsibilities September- May. The club offers a summer junior sailing program for member and non-member children focusing on learn to sail, adventure sailing and learn to race in a variety of boats. The philosophy of the program is to build lifelong sailors with strong seamanship skills and a love of boating.  The Sailing Director is also responsible for creating and implementing programs to serve club membership utilizing the club owned J-22’s. The club places a high priority on safety and in maintaining equipment to the highest standard. Positive, fun atmosphere to work in mentoring  a core group of junior instructors who grew up in the program.  The position is open due to the current Sailing Director stepping down after 12 years.

Duties

  • Reports to Club Manager, supported by volunteer Junior Sailing Committee

  • Organize, direct, and coordinate sailing activities including youth participation in local regattas

  • Recruit, train, mentor and supervise sailing instructors and race coaches, conduct pre-season training with staff

  • Creates class schedules, pricing, planning and budgeting

  • Oversees registration process, handles all inquiries and communications with sailor’s parents, promote programs

  • Strategic tasks include evaluating goals, objectives, policies and procedures for the club's sailing programs operations

  • Coordination with waterfront staff

  • Develop and implement sailing activities for the club membership utilizing the club owned J-22's

  • Responsible for maintaining all club owned equipment utilized for the sailing program

  • Develop and maintain safety plans, adhere to safety guidelines

Job Requirements
Qualifications

Sailing Experience - solid sailing skills, racing experience

Instructional/teaching experience - US Sailing Level 1 Instructor certification, Safe Sport trained, CPR/First Aid

Leadership - experience managing small teams, mentoring instructors in training

Demonstrated ability to maintain and care for equipment

Flexible, friendly customer service oriented
