Job Description

The Cohasset Yacht Club, located in Cohasset, MA; is looking for a Sailing Director who will be responsible for the Club's sailing activities including but not limited to: Jr. Sailing operations, Adult Sailing and Club-owned one-design fleet management. 


Cohasset Yacht Club is the centerpiece of Cohasset Harbor and has immediate access to both the harbor and Atlantic Ocean. Founded in 1894, the club has a long history of producing competitive sailors as well as those with a lifelong love of the sport of sailing.  


The Sailing Director will manage a program of 90-100 sailors and approximately 16 instructors (8 senior and 8 junior) in the one-design fleets of Optimists, 420s, Hartleys and H12s. 


The goal of our program is to develop a lifelong love of the sport, and provide an offering for those who want to sail competitively, as well as those who just want to have fun. Our ideal candidate has both the vision and the range on how to balance the needs of our two-track program. The development of a more formal curriculum for our competitive and adventure sailing programs will be a central focus of the offseason work.  

In addition, the Sailing Director will manage and grow our Adult Sailing Program for both the competitive and pleasure sailors.

This position reports to the Commodore.


Salary – up to $55k depending on qualifications and full-time availability

Bonus opportunity based on Jr. Sailing enrollment & retention of 130 sailors, 15% increase in jr. regatta boat participation over last year and Adult Sailing Fun Racing weekly participation of 15+ boats.

  •        Ensure our sailboat participation goals are achieved

Job Summary

Full time position June 1 - early September with part-time in off-season; requires most weekends and weekdays in-season

Understands CYC’s sailing activities and encompassed sailing skills, fun sailing and generally having fun on the water        

Goal is for everyone who comes through CYC’s sailing programs to feel that there is something for them, whether it is top-level racing, seamanship or just enjoying casual sailing

Maintains the Club's reputation through dedication to the highest-level race management, regatta coordination, youth & adult sailing development, team leadership & facilities and equipment management 

Expected to lead an exceptional sailing experience               

Pre-season & season-end planning, preparation and implementation 

Responsible for developing Jr. Sailing at CYC by developing the curriculum for a 2-track Jr. Sailing Program and Adult Learn to Sail

Provide a safe, inclusive & supportive environment for all sailors  


Candidate Requirements


Practical Experience

Several years of coaching and captaining experience on high performance sailboats

3-5 years practical management and experience in waterfront operations and sailing instruction    

Proficient in adult & child Adventure Sailing Programs                   

Proficient in watercraft assets management and racing, boat cleanliness, regatta management

Ability to perform required roles in emergency situation 

Able to teach any level of sailing including competitive racing

Extensive knowledge and experience in regatta & sailing operations  

Demonstrates competence in successfully dealing with club members                                     

Private YC experience preferred


Education & Certificates

Bachelor’s degree or higher preferred or related studies 

US Sailing Level 1 or higher, with ability to get Level 3 in off season by season 2

USCG Captain’s License a plus

Proficient in MS Office: Word, Excel, PPT                                  

Current on 1st Aid/CPR                         



Works directly with members, staff and volunteer committees in professional manner
