Sailing Director Job Description

The Manchester Sailing Association, located in Manchester, MA; is looking for a Sailing Director who will be responsible for the Association’s sailing program including but not limited to: Jr. Sailing operations, Adult Sailing and association-owned fleet management.

The Manchester Sailing Association (MSA), organized in 1971, is a not-for-profit community sailing program that teaches sailing and racing for all skill levels with a structured curriculum while promoting safety, fun and sportsmanship.

MSA offers sailing lessons for children and adults of all ability levels from Manchester and the surrounding communities. The program takes place at scenic Tuck's Point and on the docks of the Manchester Yacht Club, with easy access to the Manchester Harbor and surrounding waters. Both recreational and competitive sailing are offered in a fun, educational environment. We have classes from beginner sailors to competitive race teams. MSA owns a fleet of boats including Prams, Optimist Dinghies, 420s, and Rhodes 19s, all available for classes and open Saturday sailing.

The Sailing Director will manage a program of over 200 sailors and approximately 8 instructors (in the one-design fleets of Dyers, Optimists, 420s, Lasers, Rhodes 19’s, and Ideal 18s.)

The goal of our program is to develop a lifelong love of the sport and provide coaching and support for those who want to sail competitively, as well as those who just want to have fun. Our ideal candidate has both the vision and the range on how to balance the needs of our two-track program. The development of a more formal curriculum for our competitive and adventure sailing programs will be a central focus of the offseason work.

In addition, the Sailing Director will manage and grow our Adult Sailing Program for both the competitive and pleasure sailors.

The Sailing Director will be leading the charge as MSA charges into its next 50 years with new floats, new boats, and a new value proposition to the area sailors. The director will be involved in creating and executing MSA vision for the future

This position reports to the MSA Board.
