Job Description

Position Overview:  


We are seeking a dynamic and experienced individual to join our team as a Sailing Instructor/C420 Coach. This role involves instructing beginner to advanced sailors in sailing fundamentals and techniques while also coaching competitive C420 dinghy teams. The successful candidate will be passionate about sailing, enthusiastic about teaching, and dedicated to fostering a positive and supportive learning environment.


Key Responsibilities:

Sailing Instruction:

  • Teach sailing fundamentals, including boat handling, sail trim, points of sail, and safety procedures to students of all ages and experience levels.
  • Lead on-water instruction sessions, providing clear and effective guidance to help students develop their sailing skills and confidence.

C420 Coaching:

  • Develop a comprehensive training curriculum tailored to the needs of C420 sailors, focusing on boat handling, sail trim, boat speed, racing tactics, strategy, and teamwork.
  • Plan and lead structured training sessions, clinics, drills, and simulations to maximize skill development and prepare sailors for competition.

Club Sailing Program Implementation:

  • Implement a comprehensive curriculum for both beginner and advanced sailing programs, incorporating progressive skill-building activities and challenges.
  • Develop and implement age-appropriate sailing curriculum and lesson plans for various youth sailing programs, ensuring continuity and progression in skill development.
  • Assist in creating lesson plans and instructional materials that align with program goals and cater to the needs and interests of students.

Regatta Support:

  • Lead with the organization and logistics of C420 regattas, including boat transport, equipment setup, and racecourse management.
  • Provide on-site coaching and support to C420 teams during regattas, offering strategic advice, race analysis, and debrief sessions.

Safety and Risk Management:

  • Ensure the safety of all participants during sailing activities by implementing and enforcing appropriate safety protocols and procedures.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections of boats and equipment, addressing any maintenance or repair needs promptly.
  • Monitor weather conditions and water conditions to assess risks and make informed decisions regarding sailing activities.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time position with flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, to accommodate practice schedules and regatta travel.

Job Requirements
• Certified sailing instructor with recognized credentials (e.g., US Sailing Level 1 Certification, RYA
Dinghy Instructor).
• Strong sailing background, with proficiency in both single-handed and double-handed dinghy sailing,
particularly in the C420 class.
• Previous coaching experience working with youth sailors in a club, camp, or competitive sailing
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to connect with students, parents,
and fellow staff members.
• Current CPR and First Aid certification, with a commitment to safety and risk management.
