Job Description

The Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia in Essington, PA seeks enthusiastic, responsible, and organized sailing instructors to teach junior and adult sailing.  Summer Instructor, High school coach during Spring & Fall Semesters and Summer Adult Sailing Instructor needed. Applicant may apply for one or more of these positions. The Summer Sailing Program instructs ~100 sailors each year, ranging from 8 to 16 years old, as well as adults for private, semi-private & group lessons. Instruction takes place in the Club’s Optimist, 420’s & Flying Scots. During the Spring & Fall weekdays assist in coaching our High School sailors and help run races on Sunday afternoons.


Summer Instructors June 15 to mid-August 08

·         8 weekly sessions for beginners from 8:30AM -4:30PM including a two-week advanced course

·         Some weekend & evening hours to teach private & semi-private lessons to adults


High School Assistant Coaches Spring & Fall Semesters (March 30 to June 08, September & October)

·         Monday – Wednesday 3:30PM – 6:30PM

·         Tuesday– Thursday 3:30PM – 6:30PM

·         Sunday 1:00 – 5:30PM


Adult Sailing Instructors- June to mid-August in Flying Scots

·         Tuesday & Thursday 5:30PM – 8:30PM

·         Some weekend & evening hours to teach private & semi-private lessons to adults



·         References that validate skills and characteristics necessary to serve as a positive role model for children

·         The ideal candidate will be an experienced sailor with a knowledge of teaching and coaching in dinghies and a desire to develop sailors of all abilities. 



·         1 year instructor experience

·         Valid Driver’s License & transportation

·         US Sailing Level I (preferred but not required)

·         Current First Aid/CPR (required)

·         Ability to pass federal background check

·         US Powerboating Safe Powerboat Handling Certification or NASBLA certification
