The HBC Sailing Program primarily consists of youth classes and has a fleet of Optimists, Sunfish, ILCA (Lasers) and 420’s. The youth program consists of around 50 or 60 students ranging in age from 8-16. There is also an adult beginner’s class.

Our program will begin with a staff training session the week of June 19th and end August 26th, with end of the season clean-up and eight weeks of coaching instruction for a total of 10 weeks paid time. The hours are primarily from 7:30 – 4:00pm Monday through Friday and 9:00am – 12:00pm on Saturdays. Meals and housing are not provided. A competitive salary will be offered based on experience.

Sailing Instructors will report to the Director of Sailing. They will be responsible to teach students and work within the defined program goals, curriculum and daily lesson plans. Sailing instructors will need to work with different levels of sailors throughout the summer and should have experience in sailing instruction and proficient sailing skills.

The position requires instruction on and off the water. Youth sailing classes meet Monday through Friday from 8:00am to Noon and 1pm to 3:30pm, with LBIYRA Interclub Island Races on Wednesday, and our HBC Saturday Morning series for all members. Adult sailing classes are typically held weekly on Friday afternoons from 3:30-5:00pm. In addition, there are other regattas both on and off the island throughout the summer.

The ideal candidate is organized, professional, works well with youth and parents, is self-motivated, a team player and adaptable.
