Job Description

Senior Sailing Instructor – Stage Harbor Yacht Club (Chatham, MA)

Are you an experienced sailor with a passion for teaching? Stage Harbor Yacht Club is looking for Senior Sailing Instructors to lead and inspire students in our Summer Sailing School (SHSS). This role is perfect for individuals who are energetic, responsible, and excited to foster a love for sailing in a fun and safe environment.

Key Responsibilities

Off-Season (Pre-Summer) Responsibilities

  • Ensure all mandatory certifications (e.g., CPR, First Aid, US Sailing Level 1/2) are up to date before the season begins.
  • Attend required virtual meetings and orientations as scheduled by the Program Director or Head Instructor.

In-Season Responsibilities (June 16 – August 17, 2025)

  • Lead engaging daily instruction following the SHSS curriculum.
  • Develop and implement lesson plans that enhance students’ sailing skills and confidence on the water.
  • Oversee and mentor junior instructors, fostering a supportive and effective teaching team.
  • Ensure a safe and fun learning environment, reinforcing safety protocols and best practices.
  • Participate in club events as required by the Program Director or Head Instructor.
  • Assist with program wrap-up during Closing Work Week (starting August 17, 2025).

Compensation

  • $19-$24/hour for all scheduled off-season and in-season work.
  • $55/hour for private lessons, scheduled through the Program Director.
  • Pay subject to applicable taxes and withholdings.

Job Requirements

Sailing Experience – Strong knowledge of sailing fundamentals and on-the-water skills.
Certifications – US Sailing Level 1 or 2 Instructor Certification (or ability to obtain before the season).
Leadership & Teaching Skills – Experience working with kids in a coaching or instructional role.
Safety Awareness – Strong understanding of water safety and risk management.
Passion for Sailing – Enthusiasm for inspiring and mentoring young sailors in a fun and engaging way.
