Job Description

Plymouth Yacht Club is currently hiring for ALL Sailing Instructor positions for our 2024 season.  Founded in 1890 and located across from the Mayflower, this historic club is looking for talented coaches to join their seasonal employee staff of 30+. Our large junior program enrolls 150+ sailors over an 8-week period, teaching all levels and ages.  Emphasis is on seamanship, safety, skill progression and FUN as our sailors choose their path forward into racing or cruising. 

 

We offer flexible hours, commuting incentives and excellent pay rates. Hourly rates range from $18hr for Assistant Instructors, up to $21/hr for Instructors with 2+years of experience. Instructors 17yrs and under can participate in our C420 Racing team. Development opportunities are available for promotion in-season, such as coaching at away regattas, or to teach Adult Lessons. Note: Additional Lead Instructor positions at $22-25/hr are available for qualified candidates – please inquire (see below).  Housing may be possible for qualified international candidates.

 

Bonus 1:  We complimentarily offer: (1) CPR and First aid certification course a week prior to our Program start (2) a NASBLA certification course during two weekends in January 2024.

 

Bonus 2:  We will refund 1/2 the fee for your 2024 US Sailing Level 1 or 2 course, upon completion of your employment in 2024, and refund the other half if you return in 2025.

Job Requirements
Responsibilities
• Provide sailing instruction and mentoring of students, support of Lead Instructors.
• Ensure the safety and well-being of all participants, including enforcing safety rules.
• Maintain and care for all sailing equipment, coach boats and program facilities.
• Properly rig and de-rig equipment, and follow reporting procedures for all issues.
• Act as a role-model for assistant coaches, promoting professionalism.
• Report to Program Director for job responsibilities; Club Manager for employee issues.

Qualifications:

Coaches & Instructors must hold a valid US Sailing Level 1 or higher, First Aid and CPR certifications, NASBLA and SafeSport certification. Have familiarity with the boats in our fleet: Power: 18’ Brigs, 18’ Boston Whalers. Sail: Prams, Optis, Club 420s & RS Quests.
