Join us for the summer of 2023!
The Miles River Yacht Club wants to hire several Optimist and 420 Instructors for the 2023 summer season. The positions offer several opportunities: teach sailing to young students, work with a great group of senior coaches, enjoy the summer in St. Michaels, and try out our region's sailing experiences (racing Log Canoes and an active Star class).
Our sailing school has about 15 instructors teaching classes from intro boating and Adventure Sailing to our racing teams in Optis and 420s. Our students have plenty of opportunities to explore sailing in a fun camp environment. Instructors work together to foster a love of sailing and encourage those who want to compete.
Our introductory sailing classes can have up to 25 students per week with lots of fun and activities. Making sure students meet goals and have fun while doing it is a rewarding way to enjoy the summer. There are also opportunities to work with the racing teams to prepare students. Instructors are paid hourly with time-and-a-half for overtime. Most weeks require 40 hours, but some will require more. Weekends are mostly free.
The ideal candidate would be:
• US SAILING Small Boat Sailing Level 1 certified (or equivalent)
• Experienced instructing juniors in a sailing program
• Experienced in Optis, Lasers, or 420s
• Experienced on a high school or college team
• Committed to teaching juniors to enjoy sailing
• Excited to join an established program with lots of students!
June 12th is the start of instructor training, and students arrive on June 20th. Housing for up to 4 instructors is lined up. If interested, please send your resume and any questions to:
