Bellingham Yacht Club is seeking experienced instructors for summer of 2021. The program runs from June 28 – August 20, with a mandatory Instructor Orientation on June 26th and 27th. Classes run from 9am to 4pm Monday through Friday.
The Head Instructor will work with the Sailing Director and BYC Youth Fleet Captain in organizing the program, ensuring safety in the operations, and serving as liaisons between the instructors, students, parents, and BYC staff.
In this position, the Head Instructors are responsible for:
Daily lesson plans
Safety boat cleanliness and maintenance (includes flushing engines 1x/per week and monitoring fuel levels)
Sailboat storage and coordination of maintenance
Ensuring that other instructors are prepared and have the resources to facilitate instruction
Head Instructor Requirements:
Typically, a Head Instructor will be an experienced and accomplished sailor and instructor, ideally having completed or currently attending college. Must be at least Level 1 certified. Current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain before summer is required. This position is full time but can be flexible for the right candidate.
We are seeking instructors who:
Are at least 16 years old
Are capable small-boat sailors, comfortable in all wind conditions
Have previous instructing or junior instructing experience
Hold a current US Sailing Level 1 Certification or ability to obtain before summer
Hold a current CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain before summer-
Are enthusiastic, open-minded, responsible, and safety-focused
