Sailing Master/Director of Sailing

 

The MIT Department of Athletics, Physical Education, and Recreation (DAPER) seeks a sailing master/director of sailing to lead a dynamic and wide-reaching sailing program. Will actively participate in the teaching of physical education and profit assistance to the varsity sailing program.

The
MIT Sailing Pavilion currently teaches over 2300 students annually how to sail with the assistance of volunteers and incredibly capable staff. Rec sailing operates seven days a week from April through November with a fleet of over 120 boats. MIT’s bluewater program operates a perfectly restored 1902 Herreshoff Buzzards Bay 30 which introduces hundreds to the bigger boat experience with racing and cruising in New England.

 

Required Qualifications:

· Bachelor’s degree in physical education and wellness, sports management, or related field

· At least three years of demonstrated experience teaching and with facility management of a sailing program

· Experience with project management as it relates to renovations and new construction

· Experience coordinating internal and external events

· Proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, scheduling, and course management software

· Strong problem-solving, interpersonal, and communication skills

· Meticulous attention detail

· Team orientation

· Knowledge of competitive sailboat racing, including team racing

· Established record of volunteering to be in various leadership positions within the sport of sailing

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in an academic environment, particularly in higher education with athletic, physical education, and recreation operations

 

Must be able to work a flexible schedule to cover on nights and weekends in support of the various sailing programs that utilize the sailing pavilion.
