Community Sailing of Colorado, Denver, CO

Community Sailing of Colorado (CSC) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization established in 1994, located in beautiful Denver, CO. We are an instructional sailing organization committed to providing public access to sailing for all through sailing camps and classes in Denver and Boulder, CO. Our Junior Sailing Program runs 10-weeks of summer day camps for beginners to advanced sailors (ages 7-17) along with a Junior Race Team that practices from April-October with multiple regattas. Our Adult Program serves beginning and intermediate sailors (ages 18+) in the spring, summer, and fall seasons. We also serve community members with disabilities through our Adaptive Sailing Program which uses specialized equipment. In addition, our Community Partnership Program offers sailing to minority youth through youth-serving organizations in our surrounding community. Our fleet consists of Vanguard Prams, Optimists, RS Teras, Lasers, Topaz Unos, Club 420s, Access 303 Dinghies, Venture 18 Keels, Santana 20, J/24, and more.


Seasonal Sailing Instructor Job Description

Community Sailing of Colorado has multiple Sailing Instructor positions open for our Junior Sailing Program during the summer at the Cherry Creek and Boulder Reservoirs. Responsibilities include:

  • Implementing COVID-19 safety policies and procedures ensuring a safe environment for staff and students. 
  • Instruction of basic sailing skills in Prams, Optimist, Teras, Picos, Lasers, and c420s and other small dinghy classes for children from beginners to advanced ages 7-17 years old
  • Physically assist students in launching, rigging, and storing boats
  • Be a responsible, reliable, enthusiastic sailor and instructor with good judgment and leadership skills
  • Help prepare and plan activities, chalk talks, and debriefs each day
  • Take responsibility for ensuring a safe, organized, and educational waterfront and fleet
  • Perform seamanship skills to include keeping boats, equipment, and facility clean and neat
  • Ensure preparation, planning, and daily review and documentation of program
  • Instruct, evaluate and document improvement in sailing skills of all CSC students
  • Other duties and responsibilities deemed necessary to meet the objectives of the sailing program
  • Begin work May June 1 and continue through August 13
Job Requirements
Qualifications:
-Strong background and experience in sailing
-Knowledge of Pram, Optis, Teras, Picos, Lasers, and c420 (or similar) rigging, and sailing
-Work well with Directors, instructors, adults, and children
-US Sailing Small Boat Level 1 Instructor Certification (including First Aid/CPR)
-Previous experiences in instructing/coaching in summer camps and commitment to teaching youth
-Self-motivated team player
