Job Description

Seasonal position: *$12K -$14K for 9.25 weeks

Position Description:

Plymouth Yacht Club is seeking a Program Director to oversee the everyday operation of our summer Sailing Programs for both Juniors and Adults. A historic club founded in 1890, PYC boasts a large waterfront facility, including a separate Junior Clubhouse and float system. During our 8-week season we enroll over 150 junior students, while Adults have weekly race nights, lessons and recreational sailing.

Our Junior program offers affordable, inclusive courses designed to let young sailors develop their skills, either for recreational sailing or for racing/ competition. Our sailing fleet includes about 40 boats (Prams, Optis, Club 420s and RS Quests), and both sailors and instructors assist in the care and repair of these boats.

Our Program Director would report directly to both the Sailing Committee and the PYC Club Manager. The Program Director oversees all Sailing staff and will review them at season-end. During the season the Program Director supervises / guides instructors in the implementation of the curriculum, provide on-shore assistance with classes, and helps on the water when necessary. Especially before start of the program, the Program Director will help manage registrations and design/finalize lesson plans.

The Program Director serves as the primary contact and resource for parents, students, instructors, PYC Waterfront staff, the Sailing Committee and the HarborMaster’s office. These relationships are important, as our program relies heavily on the efforts of these people for many of our operations and events. It is important for the Program Director to understand and enjoy children and teens, promoting an environment built on fun, safety and learning.

The ideal candidate will have a minimum of: US Sailing Level 1 certification, 3 years sailing instructor experience and 1+ years experience directing children’s programing. Also must have valid CPR & First Aid certification.

Bonus 1: We complimentarily offer the CPR and First aid certification course a week prior to our Program start.

Bonus 2: We will refund 1/2 the fee for your 2023 US Sailing Level 1 or Level 2 course, upon completion of your employment end of season…AND 1/2 if you return to work with us again in 2024.

Note: Extra hours are available for coaching Adult Lessons.
