Job Summary/Objective
The OYC's Junior Sailing Program (JSP) has been teaching sailing since 1947 and became a recreational day camp in 2012. As a day camp, it complies with regulations of the MA Department of Public Health (MA DPH 105 CMR 430.00) and is licensed by the Orleans Board of Health and follows a specific Policy & Procedure document which has been approved by the Orleans Board of Health. The program is comprised of different levels of instruction which use Opti's, Capri's, Precisionl5's & 420's. Instruction is based on U.S. Sailing standards.
The Junior Sailing Program & Camp Director (JSP&CD) is responsible for oversight of the sailing program's operations, performance and planning while maintaining compliance and permitting by the local Board of Health and other state or federal authorities governing recreational camp regulations. The JSP&CD must demonstrate a consistently positive attitude and have a sense of humor in a fast paced environment which has frequent interruptions. This job is a combination of physical and administrative work and takes place both indoors in office settings and outside in various weather conditions
The JSP&CD will maintain an environment for both staff and students that prioritizes safety, learning and fun while demonstrating the JSP's mission and values of teamwork, good sportsmanship, honesty, courtesy and consideration.
Reporting: The JSP&CD reports directly to the Vice Commodore and in his/her absence the Commodore then the Rear Commodore in that order. This position also works closely with the OYC Administrator. The JSP&CD's evaluation is performed jointly by the three OYC Commodores.
Expected Hours of Work & Benefits: This is a full-time salaried position for 40+ hours/week (early-June to mid/late August) and is to be on site at all times during the program's operation. Schedule includes some weekends, early mornings or evening hours depending on circumstances/needs. Some work is expected in the off months for wrap up reporting, next season planning, preparation, budgeting, & staffing as/when needed. If the JSP&CD is to absent for over 12 consecutive hours from the Camp for any reason, the Vice Commodore is required to be onsite and fulfill the JSP&CD's duties. No benefit package is offered. Sick time is accrued/awarded per current MA regulations after initial 90 days of service.
Physical Demands: This position is required to perform administrative duties and outdoor activities in various environmental conditions. It also requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.
