Job Description
SailMaine’s mission is to provide affordable access to the water through community sailing and educational programming. Our vision is to make sailing accessible to all people in Maine as a vehicle for personal growth, a mode of connecting to nature, and a source of community.

SailMaine seeks an Adult and Offshore Program Director to strengthen and expand our current offerings.

The ideal candidate has excellent communication skills; works well in small groups; has leadership experience; is self-directed; has program development experience; has experience in small business budgeting; has experience managing a small team and hiring staff; and can work in a dynamic work environment.

A 6 pack 50 ton captain’s license (or desire to obtain one) is preferred but not required. Assessing boat maintenance needs is preferred.

A Community minded person with an interest in promoting Diversity, Equity and Inclusion in Sailing is required, and experience working with people of many different backgrounds, cultures and perspectives is preferred.


The leadership qualities we are looking for include being collaborative, an engaged and active participant of the leadership team at SailMaine, hiring, training and coaching new and established staff, promoting safety, and fostering an inclusive community. This includes actively supporting other areas of the organization like junior programming, fundraising campaigns, community events, and encouraging greater community involvement.


Job Responsibilities

· Direct charter and community programs aboard the Rip Van Winkle (2013 Dazcat 1195—40 ft catamaran).

· Direct the Adult Learn to Sail Program

· Manage Current Offshore Adult and Junior Programs

· Manage J22 Adult Rental Program

· Develop and Maintain a Boat Donation Program

· Support Operations Manager on SailMaine Campus Activities and Events

· Support Fleet and Facility Manager on Fleet Needs

· Coordinate with Junior Programs Director



Salary is based on experience: $40,000 - $50,000
