Job Description
Job Summary:

· The Head Coach will provide professional youth sailing instruction during practices and regattas

· The position is part-time during school year (~12-30 hours) and full-time during the summer

Compensation:

· Competitive compensation is offered and may vary with experience.

· Head coach will be paid an hourly rate for practices and day rate during regattas

· Opportunities may exist to run clinics for additional compensation

· Regatta travel expenses (mileage, lodging, food) are covered during regattas

· SBYSF may assist with costs of moving

· SBYSF may assist with acquiring housing and first month’s rent

Responsibilities:

· Instruct a class of youth sailors with a range of abilities from beginner to advanced in a variety of sailboats (Optimist SailCube, Optimist, CFJ, other)

· Be a leader and resource to staff

· Provide safe on-the-water support to sailors during practice and/or regatta time

· Develop lesson plans and curriculum appropriate to age/experience level

· Create constructive changes to SBYSF program

· Aid sailors with goal setting and training-program development

· Execute on-land briefings, drills, and tutorials

· Execute on-water practices and drills

· Utilize available technology (video footage, pictures, etc.) to better facilitate teaching

· Facilitate minor repairs and daily maintenance on SBYSF equipment as needed

· Travel regionally and nationally to regattas

· Assure SBYSF dock is clean and well organized

· Be a role model and resource to young sailors and parents

· Educate parents on different aspects of youth sailing

· Maintain coachboats: rinse following usage, clean out trash, etc.

Job Requirements:

· Current US Sailing Level 1, 2, or 3 Certification

· Current CPR/First Aid Certification

· Powerboat operating skills

· Small sailboat operating skills in all wind conditions

· Experience coaching at regional, national, and international levels

· Experience racing at national and international level in youth, high school, and college

· Reliability, responsibility, and ability to work with a team

· Coaches may be required to pass a background check
